Timezone Genie Privacy Policy

Timezone Genie is a Chrome browser extension that lets you track the local time for people you know across different timezones. This privacy policy explains what data the extension collects, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

1. What Data We Collect

Timezone Genie stores the following data locally in your browser (via chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local):

All data listed above is entered directly by you through the extension popup. The extension does not automatically collect, infer, or generate any data about you or anyone else.

2. How Data Is Used

Your data is used solely to operate the extension's core features:

• Display local times — contact timezones are used to show current local time in real time.
• Send availability notifications — on-time/off-time settings are used to schedule Chrome OS notifications that alert you before a contact goes offline.
• Organise contacts — group names and assignments are used to display contacts in collapsible groups.
• Theming — your theme preference is used to render the popup in light or dark mode.

Data is never used for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose beyond what is described above.

3. Data Storage and Sync

• chrome.storage.sync — stores your contacts, groups, and notification preferences. If you are signed into Chrome, Google automatically syncs this data across your devices using your Google Account. This sync is handled entirely by Chrome/Google — Timezone Genie does not control or have access to this sync mechanism. See Google's Privacy Policy for details on how Google handles synced extension storage.
• chrome.storage.local — stores your theme preference locally on the current device only. This data is never synced.

4. Data Sharing

We do not share your data with anyone.

• No data is transmitted to any server operated by us or any third party.
• No analytics services, crash reporters, or telemetry tools are included in the extension.
• No third-party SDKs or libraries that collect data are used.

5. Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:

offscreen	Detect the system dark/light mode preference to theme the extension icon correctly

These permissions are the minimum required for the extension to function. No permissions beyond those listed are requested.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data persists in Chrome storage until you delete it:

• Delete a contact or group: Use the delete controls in the extension popup. The data is removed immediately.
• Clear all data: Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data (chrome.storage.local). Synced data (chrome.storage.sync) may persist in your Google Account until Chrome removes it — you can clear it manually via chrome://extensions/ before uninstalling.
• Disable notifications: Toggle the notification switch in the popup. No data is deleted; scheduled alarms are simply cancelled.

7. Children's Privacy

Timezone Genie is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has entered personal data into the extension, you can delete it at any time using the controls described in Section 6.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the extension after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
