Timezone Genie is a Chrome browser extension that lets you track the local time for people you know across different timezones. This privacy policy explains what data the extension collects, how it is used, and your rights as a user.
Timezone Genie stores the following data locally in your browser (via chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local):
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Contact names | Display in the popup UI |
Timezone identifiers (e.g., America/New_York) | Calculate and display local times |
| Work hours (on-time / off-time) | Schedule availability notifications |
| Group names and assignments | Organise contacts into groups |
| Notification preferences (enabled/disabled, lead time) | Control when Chrome notifications are sent |
| Display preferences (dark/light theme) | Remember your UI preference |
All data listed above is entered directly by you through the extension popup. The extension does not automatically collect, infer, or generate any data about you or anyone else.
Your data is used solely to operate the extension's core features:
Data is never used for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose beyond what is described above.
chrome.storage.sync — stores your contacts, groups, and notification preferences. If you are signed into Chrome, Google automatically syncs this data across your devices using your Google Account. This sync is handled entirely by Chrome/Google — Timezone Genie does not control or have access to this sync mechanism. See Google's Privacy Policy for details on how Google handles synced extension storage.chrome.storage.local — stores your theme preference locally on the current device only. This data is never synced. We do not share your data with anyone.
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
storage | Read and write your contacts, groups, and preferences to chrome.storage |
alarms | Schedule timed notifications for when contacts are about to go offline |
notifications | Show Chrome OS desktop notifications for availability alerts |
offscreen | Detect the system dark/light mode preference to theme the extension icon correctly |
These permissions are the minimum required for the extension to function. No permissions beyond those listed are requested.
Your data persists in Chrome storage until you delete it:
chrome.storage.local). Synced data (chrome.storage.sync) may persist in your Google Account until Chrome removes it — you can clear it manually via chrome://extensions/ before uninstalling.Timezone Genie is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has entered personal data into the extension, you can delete it at any time using the controls described in Section 6.
