What StashAI does

StashAI is a Chrome extension that helps you save, organize, and rediscover web content. It stores your data locally in your browser.

Data stored locally

All stashed pages, sessions, folders, notes, settings, and AI-generated metadata (summaries and tags) are stored in your browser using chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your device except as described below.

Data sent to external services

When AI features are enabled, StashAI sends the following to OpenRouter's API (openrouter.ai) for analysis: page title, page URL, and up to 3,000 characters of extracted page text. This is used solely to generate summaries and tags for your saved items. Your OpenRouter API key is included in these requests for authentication.

When you use "Send to Future Me," StashAI opens Gmail's compose window in a new tab with the summary pre-filled. This is a browser navigation, not a background data transfer — you see and control what is sent.

Private Mode

Items saved in Private Mode are never sent to any external service. No AI processing occurs. Data remains entirely in your browser.

Data we do NOT collect

StashAI does not collect personal information, analytics, telemetry, browsing history (beyond what you explicitly stash), cookies, or any tracking data. There is no user account system. There are no external servers storing your data.

Third-party services

The only third-party service StashAI communicates with is OpenRouter (openrouter.ai) for AI analysis. OpenRouter's privacy policy applies to data processed through their API. You provide your own API key — StashAI does not use a shared key.

Data retention

All data is stored locally and persists until you delete it. Trashed items are automatically purged after 14 days. You can delete all data at any time by removing the extension.

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Changes will be posted on this page.
